Sound familiar?

"I save all sorts of videos but never get started."

"I can paint from tutorials, but am at a complete loss on my own."

"It's hard to just sit down and paint something out of thin air. I feel like all I do is copy someone else's work."

"I have to remind myself daily to put down my phone and pick up my paintbrushes."

"Making time to paint."

"I'm afraid I'll mess it up."

You've watched the videos. You've taken the courses and painted along with tutorials. You probably have more supplies than you can use.

You don't lack information. You need a way to sit down and paint.

How it Works

A place to learn, practice, and actually paint. The Studio is a supportive watercolour community built around landscapes. You always have something to paint, something to practice, and people to paint beside. Here's how it works:

🗓 Every week: a new reference photo. Pick one, sit down, and paint. Members say it takes about 60-90 minutes. There's no schedule and no falling behind.

🎥 Every month: a live paint-along. We paint a landscape together, live, and you can ask questions as you go. Can't make it? It's recorded.

🎯 Every month: one skill to focus on. The paint-along introduces it, and the month's references let you practice it on your own.

🌱 Beginner 101. The foundation for getting started, from "huh??" to "I know how to paint something."

💬 A community of painters. Share your work, ask questions when you're stuck, and see how other people handle the same reference.

How it solves what's been getting in your way

“I save all the videos but never get started.”

You start with a reference that's already chosen. There's nothing to search for, so there's nothing to put off.

“I don't know where to begin.”

That's what Beginner 101 is for. You'll learn what you actually need, how much water to use, when to let it dry, what to paint first, and how to turn a photo into a painting.

“I don't have the time.”

It's one sitting a week, about 60-90 minutes, and you paint when it suits you. Miss a week and you pick up with the next reference.

“I can follow a tutorial, but I'm lost on my own.”

"If it's live, I paint. If it's a tutorial, I just watch." The monthly paint-along is live, so you paint instead of watch. Then the weekly references give you chances to make your own decisions.

“What should I paint?”

A new reference every week, plus a growing library. You never spend your painting time searching.

“Color mixing, water control, depth, composition, looseness.”

Each month focuses on one of these skills, and the weekly references let you practice it. We also paint what lives in a landscape: buildings, color, animals, and figures. And when you're stuck, you can ask.

“What if I mess it up?”

The Studio is a low-stakes place to practice. Everyone has painted something they didn't love. You'll see other painters' work in progress, ugly stages included.

What members are doing

Painting beside other people changes what you think is possible.

🌎 Deb just traveled the West Coast and painted all along the way. She also gifts her paintings to family.

🖼 Melissa has had her work in multiple galleries and just launched her own sales website.

☕ Members paint in waiting rooms, at the kitchen table, on trips, wherever they have a free hour.

"A daily sketchbook, a travel journal with my own paintings instead of photos." "Cards and paintings people keep." "A painting of my house that I'm proud enough to frame."

These dreams came from people like you, and some are already happening in the Studio.

“Sounds great… but I don’t have time for this.”

I get it. You don’t want just another thing on your plate.

The good news?

Most people say they spend about 45–90 minutes total on the weekly painting.

No overthinking. No perfectionism. Just painting.

This Is For You If:

  • You struggle with what to paint
  • You want to paint more consistently
  • You’ve followed tutorials, but want to grow beyond them
  • You want to improve - without pressure or perfection
  • You like the idea of painting alongside others
  • You want a balance of structure + creative freedom

You don’t need to be an advanced painter.

👉 You just need to be willing to show up.

Where The Studio came from

For years, painters joined my #ipaintedthat challenge for a simple reason: having a reference every week made it easier to paint. They painted things they wouldn't normally have chosen. They saw how other people interpreted the same subject. They learned from each other, and they improved.

The Studio grew from that idea, and it's become much more. Now there's a monthly skill to practice, a live paint-along, Beginner 101, feedback, and a community built around helping you keep painting, away from social media.

"Painting your prompts was a great skill builder for me as an intermediate painter. It helped remove the mental load of deciding what to paint each week so I could stop thinking and start painting."

You don't need to become a better artist overnight.

You need something to paint, a skill to practice, and people to paint beside. And one day you realise you're someone who paints.

Come paint with us.

💬From the Community

This started as a free weekly painting practice called the #ipaintedthat challenge. I asked the painters who showed up consistently what it was like for them…

Here’s what they said:

Hi, I’m Juliene!

I’m a color educator and landscape watercolorist - and my goal is simple:

👉 to help you paint more… and paint better.

Why? Because I’ve experienced firsthand what painting can do.

It’s helped me work through hard seasons.
It’s improved my mental health.
It’s given me something to be proud of - and a way to grow.

And I’ve seen that same thing happen for so many other people, too!

Back in 2018, after years of creating large-scale acrylic paintings, I switched things up and fell in love with watercolor landscapes.

They gave me something new:

🎨 the ability to travel with my supplies
🎨 to paint my surroundings and experiences
🎨 and most importantly - to paint more often

Then, in 2024, I had a simple idea:

Start a challenge where we all painted the same reference photo… and shared our work.

Honestly, it started as something for me - a way to stay consistent in my own practice.

But something unexpected happened ...

👉People started showing up.

They started painting consistently and they started improving! And even more than that…

🌟 they started connecting
🌟 encouraging each other
🌟 making friends through their art

What started as a simple idea turned into something really special.

Over time, though, the free challenge became harder to sustain - and I realized I wanted something more. And so did the challenge members.

Not just a place to post…but a space where we could:

👉 connect more deeply
👉 share ideas and creativity
👉 and explore watercolor landscapes together in a more meaningful way

That’s how The Studio came to be.

It’s a continuation of everything that worked - but in a more supportive, intentional space.

And I’m really glad you’re here ❤️

xx, Juliene
